Yesterday I found out that the MySQL books sold at Foyles in London, England, were not in the ‘Database’ section. Instead they could be found just under and next the Apache and PHP books.
I was rather disappointed. You see a whole rack of Oracle, PostgreSQL, Firebird, DB2, .. but no MySQL where (I guess) most people would first look.
The two guys from Foyles told me that this was already like that before they got there. It was probably because of the LAMP thing, one told me, that the MySQL books end up between the PHP books.
So here’s the question: Where are the MySQL books located in your favorite bookstore?

And what is your favorite book?
And what is your favorite MySQL book? My favorite book is Jeremy Zawodny’s but I only have two MySQL books.

Re: And what is your favorite book?
To be honnest, I never really had books of MySQL but read them partly using O’Reilly’s Safari when needed.
The ‘High Performance MySQL’ looked indeed great. I must say that I was surprised from the certification books MySQL provides. It offers a good introduction and is a good walk through for learning.
Firebird
That link would be firebirdsql.org :)
And did you actually seen the firebird book in the store ? Just curious http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1590592794?v=glance
Seems that Foyles do have Fiebird Book
Here is the link http://www.foyles.co.uk/foyles/display.asp?K=184034507143407&sf_01=KEYWORD&st_01=firebird&x=0&y=0&m=19&dc=44
Re: Firebird
Thanks for that! Somehow I’m double checking all the links I’m putting in, but I even forgot the one for PostgreSQL. I’ve updated my post.
I didn’t take any books i my hand, but I remember black background and yellow letters on the cover or so. That link you show might be the one.
Good that there were so much opensource database books though. Was nice to see.
This so cries for the obligatory
bashing comment: why should a book about MySQL be in the Database section…?
Re: This so cries for the obligatory
.. Oh, that felt good typing that!
Anyway, there is no reason why MySQL books shouldn’t be in the Database section in bookshops. And apparently they are in most. I wouldn’t like to see PostgreSQL books under ‘Fiction’ either.
